EV Charging Stations

EV Charging Stations

The Town of Coronation is excited to announce we recently received a grant to install six electric vehicle charging stations. The grant was provided in part by the Government of Alberta and Natural Resources Canada through the Electric Vehicle Charging Program (EVCP) administered by the Municipal Climate Change Action Centre (MCCAC). The MCCAC is a partnership of Alberta Municipalities, Rural Municipalities of Alberta, and the Government of Alberta. Station locations are installed at the Coronation Arena and the Coronation Community Hall.

Grant details:

  • The grant  cover 100 percent of the cost of the installation project, which comes to a total of $59,800

Charging stations:

  • Six  charging stations in total
    • Level 2 Charging stations utilize 240 volts and can fully charge an EV in 8  to 10 hours
    • 4 charging stations are located at the Coronation Arena and 2 at the Coronation Community Hall.
    • Currently, because of the limited charging usage of the level two charging stations, the council has suspended fees for their use. However, this decision will be reassessed should there be a need to reinstate charging fees in the future.

  • Coronation Memorial Arena
    • Completed in October 2023
  • Coronation Community Hall

    • Completed in November 2023

"Electric vehicle (EV) charging facilities in Alberta's countryside can be life-saving by offering charging points in isolated areas. They serve as vital support in emergency situations for charging electric vehicles, ensuring that individuals are not stranded in rural parts of the province. Additionally, these stations may promote the use of EVs locally, maintaining the mobility of residents and visitors alike, and potentially drawing more people to possibly settle and explore our small rural community, enhancing tourism and residency prospects." - Town CAO - Quinton Wintfley
